Dhalinybuy

Dhalinybuy is a small settlement on the fertile soil on the Cato River that flows into Arnhem Bay in North East Arnhem Land, about 1.5 hours south west of Nhulunbuy. Dhalinybuy is Wangurri clan land – about 30 people live there. The community are strong and proud of their Wangurri heritage.

Dhalinybuy is the homeland of Bangarra Dance Artists and Cultural Consultants Djakapurra Munyarryun and Janet Guypunura Munyarryun. Bangarra has fostered strong relationships with the Dhalinybuy community from over many years.

The company returns to this area regularly, in cultural exchange, where the Bangarra Artists share their knowledge of dance, stories and pride. The Dhalinybuy community share their traditional practices with the Bangarra Artists, including weaving and dying workshops, artefact making, hunting and gathering expeditions, traditional dance lessons and Yolngu kinship tutorials.
