On Country
Sydney
Sydney is the capital of New South Wales, and the largest city by population in Australia.
The city is on the lands of the Eora Nation, as well as Dharug, Kuring-gai, and Dharawal Country.
Sydney has been our stomping ground since our beginning in 1989. It’s on this Country, on the lands of the Eora Nation, that we create and premiere our stories. As well as creating and performing works in Sydney, several Bangarra works have been inspired by this place, including the 2013 work Macq which unveils the dark history of a massacre on Dharug people; the 2014 work Patyegarang which tells the story of a young woman of the Cammeraygal clan of the Eora Nation; and Bennelong (2017) which explores the character and legacy of a Wangal man of the Eora Nation.
