"Bangarra’s story and importance is something that needs to be experienced rather than merely discussed" ★★★★
Firestarter celebrates the evolution of Bangarra acknowledging its original founders and how three young Aboriginal brothers — Stephen, David and Russell Page — took over the dance company and turned it into a First Nations cultural powerhouse. Through the eyes of the brothers, Firestarter explores the loss and reclaimation of culture, the burden of intergenerational trauma, and – crucially – the power of art as a messenger for social change and healing.
Firestarter had its world premiere at the Brisbane International Film Festival, followed by screenings at the Adelaide Film Festival, Byron Bay Film Festival and Revelation Perth International Film Festival.
The film will be released widely in cinemas from early 2021.
