Clem Lawrie is a 60 year old Mirning and Yankuntjyara man with connection and responsibility to the Nullarbor region on the far west coast of South Australia, extending beyond the WA border. Having ancestral ties to the Yuldea people through his mother who was born at Yuldea; Clem’s cultural and historical knowledge of the Nullarbor region has also stemmed from learning from Elders about caring for Country and passing on knowledge to the younger generations. Clem provided cultural advocacy to help bring about the Nullarbor Wilderness Protection Area. He is an advocate and leader for protecting the vast Nullarbor region and has been a Native Title applicant for the area. Clem is an active representative on the Nullarbor Parks Co-Management Committee and has co-chaired for several years.
