Gusta Mara was born on Thursday Island and is of Angamudthi, Atembiya, Goba, Argun and Wagadthagum descent. He graduated from NAISDA in 2018 and went on to join Bangarra in 2019 as part of the Russell Page Graduate Program.

Gusta Mara is an Angamudthi, Atembiya, Goba, Argun and Wagadthagum man from the tip of Queensland and the western islands of the Torres Straits and was born on Thursday Island. Gusta is also of Samoan and South Sea Islander descent.

Bio

Gusta first started dancing at the age of 16 at Graham Academy of Dance and trained there until he auditioned for NAISDA Dance College in 2015, at the age of 18. He graduated from NAISDA in 2018 with a Diploma of Professional Dance.

In Gusta’s short time training and dancing, he has worked with many Choreographers such as Vikki Van Hout, Pamela Williams, Craig Bary, Raymond D. Blanco, Frances Rings, Sani Townson and Jack Grey. He also worked with Atamira Dance Company for the Tempo Dance Festival in New Zealand.

Gusta joined Bangarra Dance Theatre in 2019.
