Company dancer Janaya Lamb shares how her connection to Country, story and movement come together to embody the Manawan tree in our upcoming production of Illume. Signalling the arrival to Bardi Jawi Country, the Manawan tree is a powerful marker of place. Its orange to scarlet blossoms feed native bees which in turn provide sugar-bag honey, wax and resin. It's branches are used to build shelters, make hunting and digging sticks, boomerangs, spears, and containers for food and water.
