Listening Back: Our Early Voices

Our Early Voices | Ian Plater

From Bangarra’s earliest days, Ian Plater stood beside the company as a steadfast supporter and guiding force, playing a pivotal role in establishing it as a legal entity in 1989 and serving on the Foundation Board. His wisdom, advocacy and unwavering belief in the vision of a young First Nations dance company helped lay the foundations for its future, with Ian personally stepping in more than once to ensure the company could continue its journey. In conversation with Bangarra Alum Yolande Brown, he reflects on the passion, courage and determination he recognised in those early artists and what it has meant to witness Bangarra grow into the cultural force it is today.
