Listening Back: Our Early Voices

Our Early Voices | Jasmine Gulash

In 1983, 20-year-old Kabi Kabi woman Jasmine Gulash left Murwillumbah for Sydney to pursue acting, but an unexpected audition for NAISDA Dance College began a journey that would help shape First Nations performing arts. After training at NAISDA and performing with AIDT, she joined Bangarra Dance Theatre’s first ensemble and went on to contribute as a dancer, Company Manager and Rehearsal Director, bringing generosity, dedication and a deep commitment to community to every role. Beyond Bangarra, Jasmine has spent decades nurturing emerging First Nations artists through her work at NAISDA. In conversation with Bangarra Alum Yolande Brown, she reflects on the energy and spirit of those formative years and what they meant to her as a young dancer.
