About follows the journey of Torres Strait Islander people with these winds and the effects they have on the land, sea and community. Bangarra Dancer and Choreographer Elma Kris is inspired by Torres Strait Islander customs passed down through families for generations, reflecting the strong links between communities and their natural environment.

This production features the First Nations language Kala Lagaw Ya (Central & Western Torres Strait Islands).

Storyteller - Acknowledging the ancestors, the land, the sea and the winds
Zey - Zey is like a cool breeze; it is the ‘south wind’.
Kuki - Kuki is the time of tropical storms and rough seas, it is the north-west wind. Kuki has an energy that comes with a force.
Naygay - Naygay is the calmest, most gentle wind. It is the north wind.
Sager - Sager is the dominant wind. It’s the gusty south-east wind. We used this wind in the Torres Strait to know when to go hunting or pearl diving.
