Terrain | Return to Country

  • Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre
  • Stories, Highlights, Behind the Scenes

In 2016, Bangarra returned the work Terrain to Country. This was the fourth time the company had connected, on Country, with the cultural custodians of this area, the Arabunna people. From 2011- 2016, the company has experienced Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre across its full flux of temperaments, from brimming full of life-bringing waters to its quiet, salt-crystalised, dry state.

PLEASE NOTE: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people should be aware that Terrain and this content contain images, audio, video, quotes and the names of people who have passed away.

An important part of Bangarra’s cultural exchange is the ‘Return to Country’ practice. This practice ensures that work is returned to its cultural origins, as a sign of respect for the communities whose stories and spirits inspire Bangarra productions. Our Return to Country practice ensures that our community relationships, developed over many years, are maintained and continue to inform the integrity of our work.
